RBW’S MICHAEL WINSLOW HONORED BY AAF RALEIGH- DURHAM WITH PRESTIGIOUS SILVER MEDAL AWARDRaleigh, N.C. – May 23, 2008 – RBW Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Michael Winslow is the recipient of the 2008 American Advertising Federation Raleigh-Durham’s distinguished Silver Medal Award. The honor was presented to Winslow on May 21.
The Silver Medal recognizes men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and are active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.
The recipient of numerous advertising and business awards, including One Show Gold, Silver Pencils and the Stephen Kelly Award, Winslow began his career at McKinney & Silver. There, he raised the bar for creative excellence in the industry with his memorable campaigns for North Carolina Travel and Tourism, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Piedmont Airlines. In 1990, Winslow left McKinney to join Rockett Burkhead & Winslow, now RBW. Again, his creative leadership helped grow the agency winning Volvo Trucks, Glaxo Wellcome, Duke University Medical Center and most recently BB&T, CORT, Dollar Tree Stores and Old Dominion Freight Line.
A tribute video celebrating Winslow’s achievements was shared at the awards ceremony. It featured comments from many industry notables including Mike Hughes, president and creative director of The Martin Agency in Richmond, Virginia, Harry Jacobs, chairman emeritus of Martin, Tim McClure, founder of GSD&M Idea City and author Jan Karon who worked with Winslow at McKinney & Silver. A common thread among all the comments shared was Winslow’s commitment to craftsmanship and the art of storytelling in his work.
“Winning an award like this could go to one’s head, but I’m going to let it go to my heart,” said Winslow. “My heart is now fuller with all the talented people and experiences I’ve had, with room for more to come. I’m a product of my relationships and collaboration with all the people who shared their stories tonight.”
In addition to his duties at RBW, Winslow is actively involved in the advertising programs at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his alma mater East Carolina University, as well as the School of Communication Arts in Raleigh and the North Carolina State Design program. Over the years, he has done pro bono work for organizations such as The Healing Place, Jobs for Life, United Way, Special Olympics and Tocqueville Society.
